Many genes are conserved in function between species, many genes yet to be identified are identified using database searches of similar sequences already existing from previous research. Once such matches are found it is easy to study the function and structure of the target, once again matching it with database entries and even evolution pathes may be studied. Human genes are often matched with other organisms of scientific study such as the mouse, the new protein (haloacid dehalogenase-like hydrolase domain containing 2) is found in humans and a search the similarity in mouse genome.
