Elective 2008: Protein structure, function and evolution

Problem

2005 and 2006, we looked at the proteins involved in DNA replication, the replisome. However, in today's research being faced with novel protein structures for which the function(s) are unknown become reality. In this elective we will address the question how much can be learned about the biological function of novel protein structures by analysing its sequence, structure and evolution and publicly available experimental information. In our 2007 elective we pursued similar aims on different target proteins and you may want to check out last year's work.
