Hypothetical protein Abstract
Abstract
Ribose and fucose are important substrates in the uptake of material by cells, as they are involved in numerous cellular functions. The RbsD/FucU superfamily proteins have been shown to be involved in the transport of these two sugars, by causing anomeric change in the sugars. 2ob5A hypothectical protein LOC282969 isoform 1 has been found to be a member of this superfamily. Structural, evolutionary and functional analysis found that this protein is specifically involved with fucose transport as a FucU protein. This was supported by the finding of major conserved regions between the two types of transporters and specific binding residues.
