2NXF surface by b factor.png

The surface view here, is orientated so that the large cavity at the top of the protein can be seen. This view of the protein shows that this cavity is bridged so that it appears to be a donut shape, this formation is not picked up in the ribbon view of 2NXF which shows a clear gap in the secondary structure of the protein. Many other smaller cavities can also be seen in the protein. These indentations are the perfect sites for ligand binding or interactions with other proteins and allow the search for such sites to become more targeted and specific as the interactions with other molecules is limited somewhat by the shape and size of the cavities.
