OMIM: {{{1}}}

Usage

This template creates an abbreviated reference citation to a specific numbered page at the Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man database.

{{OMIM3|#####}}, where "#####" is the OMIM page number.

Results: Template:OMIM3

This template is good to use after the first OMIM citation (use the Template:Tl template instead for that) in an article/section, as it is too short and uninformative by itself to use in the first instance (and isn't a wikilink to the Mendelian Inheritance in Man article, since Template:Tl already does that). Also, Template:Tl can be used after Template:Tl to shorten a long list of OMIM citations.

Furthermore, this template can also be used in infoboxes, though Template:Tl (and its Template:Tl plainlinks variant) were specifically intended for this purpose; which is more appropriate really depends on the layout of the infobox. Use in infoboxes will probably not need Template:Tl as the first citation. A non-"plainlinks" version of Template:Tl, with the standard external link icon, is also available at Template:Tl, for use in infoboxes where it is not already clear that the links are external, and in regular article prose. Template:Tl should only be used when user confusion as to internal/external links is unlikely.

Example of use:

  • An infobox where the OMIM (among others) template appears in a "External information" table cell.

Where multiple OMIM citations are needed in such a cell, it may be prudent to use Template:Tl for the first OMIM citation and Template:Tl for subsequent ones.
